And It Begins...

View from the flight from New Jersey to Bridgetown, Barbados It has now almost been a week since I left home in Chicago; I left on January 17 (Wednesday) to go to Boston and left on the 20th (Saturday) to Barbados. Before I continue with what has been happening now, I want to mention a couple of things about when I left. I didn't expect or think it would be "hard, hard"; I definitely took certain things for granted, but I guess that is how you grow. I know the goodbyes I said will be more "see you laters", but that doesn't mean that it didn't hurt; it's part of the adventure. I spent some days in Boston with my mom which was really nice since I had never been before, and then Saturday morning at 4 am I met a "stranger" (I had been talking to her online, not the same thing though) and we flew together from Boston to New Jersey where we got to see New York City (the Statue of Liberty which was probably my favorite) and then to Barbados; speci...

Class Afloat Semester 1 Itinerary

Class Afloat Semester 1 2023 - 2024 School Year Ports As I am writing this, my soon-to-be classmates/friends are in Porto, Portugal which is amazing! They just arrived from a very hard sail; they encountered a category 3 hurricane with waves up to 15 meters tall! The good thing is that made it safely and despite the harsh conditions, they learned and now know what it is like to sail in harsh conditions. This year's crew started the school year on September 12 in Grimnitszeezsee, Berlin Area, Germany, and then they went to Heino, Amsterdam Area, Netherlands. They started with activities to get to know each other and officially start the academic school year. After approximately one month on land, they went to Bremerhaven, Germany; home to the Alexander-von-Humboldt II which is where they boarded the ship and set sail to Porto. Due to the rough sea conditions, there was a surprise port in Cherbourg, France; I mean they can't complain. After Portugal they will head to Casablanca, ...

My Story

Image
There are a little over 8 billion people in our world, which is crazy to think about, keeping in mind we only ever interact with approximately 80,000. If you start to think even deeper ¨what makes me unique when there are billions of people worldwide ¨ this is a question I haven't found an answer to yet, and maybe I won't have to, maybe there is no answer to it then just accept things for how they are (regarding this question). Looking back at what I have lived so far, I start to think about what made me want to travel, volunteer, explore the world, and so on. How did I end up in Chicago and about to go on an adventure of a lifetime? The answer to that is my story, so in the briefest way possible, here is one of the over 8 billion stories out there... I was born May 4, 2006, in Mexico City to two amazing parents, along with some complications meanwhile I was in my mom's womb. At some point, doctors thought it was crazy for me to make it, the same with my mom. My mom got a r...

Get to Know Me!

Post 1: Introduction  “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”. Ever since I can remember, I have wanted to see and explore the world. I just remember wanting to travel; why? I don´t know why, but it is something that every time I thought about, it brought me happiness. I don’t mean go on a vacation, but actually travel (there is a difference). The world is a small, but huge place at the same time, so why not explore it? One of my many dreams will soon become a reality. Just writing this gives me chills because it is crazy to think about. A couple years ago I found out about a high school study abroad program that is called "Class Afloat". It is a program for 11th & 12th graders, as well as for first-year college students in which you get to sail the world all while living and studying on a tall ship. Sounds crazy, but it is true.  Long story short, I got very interested in this program and for my last year of high school I applied and was accepted...
